Delopment of National Accessibility Guidelines for IT

View Images

Frontend were commissioned by the NDA to write the Irish National Disability Authority IT Accessibility Guidelines, http://www.accessit.nda.ie/. These guidelines were commissioned as part of the Irish Government's commitment in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness to making public services accessible to people with disabilities. With the impending disabilities bill being introduced, accessibility is a key consideration when developing software and services within the public sector.

The guidelines cover web accessibility, Application Software, Public Access Terminals and Telecoms and are provided as a resource for producers and procurers. Our approach extended beyond compliance to provide guidelines for ease of use for people with disabilities.

Frontend also assisted the NDA in promoting the guidelines within the industry by producing the website and a promotional video. We produced a series of illustrations to include in the website that helped support the extensive content.

Testimonials

Without using the skills of Frontend we could not have met our timescales and still produce such an intuitive interface for our product.  Their particular skills in designing for maximum usability - critical to any browser interface - were invaluable.  We will continue to work with Frontend on future projects and have even adopted some of their development cycle processes in-house.
