Revenue commissioned Frontend to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the revenue.ie website, focusing on usability, accessibility and fitness for purpose. Frontend split the review into three sections; an Accessibility Audit, a Heuristic Evaluation and a Technical System Review. The Accessibility Audit was carried out on a sample set of 35 pages. Each page was examined using a range of manual and automatic checks to gauge compliance with each of the 67 WAI WCAG 1.0 Guidelines. Pages were then cross checked on a guideline by guideline. Issues were compiled and analyse and then a series of resolutions were generated. The Heuristic Evaluation involved a systematic inspection of the website by a team of specialist usability professionals. The reviewers completed a series of key tasks from the point of view of the target user groups identified by the Revenue. The site was evaluated against established usability criteria and user centred design principals. Findings from each of the reviewers were compiled and a series of high level recommendations were generated. The system review employed both automated and manual checks to assess the structure, performance and suitability of the current deployment. Special attention was paid to the level of Web Standards Compliance and the suitability of the current content for reuse and extensibility. This was compiled into a series of recommendations for future developments. |
Testimonials
Without using the skills of Frontend we could not have met our timescales and still produce such an intuitive interface for our product. Their particular skills in designing for maximum usability - critical to any browser interface - were invaluable. We will continue to work with Frontend on future projects and have even adopted some of their development cycle processes in-house.
