Interface Testing -UPC Interactive Entertainment Guide

UPC is the largest cable TV provider in Europe. Frontend worked with UPC to evaluate the interface design of their new Interactive Entertainment Guide (IEG) service. In particular the end users understanding of the terminology, iconography and navigation were to be evaluated and redesigned. The target audience for this service is very broad, literally ranging from 10 - 80 years, so ease of use and simplicity were paramount.

The development team, based in Amsterdam, provided prototype story boards for evaluation. We identified several issues within the screen task flow. Changes were recommended and implemented prior to prototyping stage. A phrase audit was conducted on the system to ensure the interface options were consistent and easily understood, then several iterations of the prototype were tested with the target audience in Amsterdam. Testing was conducted in both Dutch and English.

The evaluation encompassed all aspects of the interface from the remote control through to the TV channel bar and the IEG and email applications.
